Tracy Hoffman, a 1978 Graduate of Sprague High School in Salem, was an honor student at Willamette University and an active member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. During his senior year, in 1982, Tracy was diagnosed and cured of Hodgkin's Disease. However, in January of 1985, he fell victim to Leukemia and died that July. In memory of Tracy's commitment to philanthropy, Kappa Sigma organizes this annual event for the Leukemia Society.

The Start/Finish line and day of event registration are located at Bush Park's McCullough Stadium. This year's event will immediately follow the Willamette Track & Field Invitational and will take place entirely in Bush Park. Registration will take place from noon until 6 pm during the Willamette Track and Field Invitational at Bush Park's McCullough Stadium.

Prizes/Awards/Results: A large raffle will take place immediately following the event with prizes donated from Salem businesses. Age group awards will be given and cash prizes will be given for best costumes. Results will be posted at Gallagher Fitness Resources in downtown Salem and online at: www.ActiveSalem.com/events.

This year's event will feature a 5K race for the serious athlete, with a 5K Fun Run and Walk for the more casual participant. Professional race management for both events will be provided by

Weaving throughout Bush Park, the course travels over bark dust trails and small hills. It is primarily flat and fast and will start and finish on the track. The largest change from previous years is that this event will take place at twilight and the course will be illuminated by candles and lighted balloons in memory of leukemia victims, creating a beautiful nightscape. Along with the run, there will be a 5K Fun Run and Walk. Dressing up is highly encouraged and cash prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

It will be possible to purchase a candle for $5 in memory of a Leukemia victim prior to race day and also during the Willamette Invitational. These candles will be used to illuminate sections of the course.

Following the event, complimentary refreshments will be provided, along with a raffle and music for entertainment.
